Monday 20th January is called Blue Monday.
It’s apparently the most depressing day of the year.
But while there isn’t any scientific evidence to back this claim up, depression is very real and must be taken very seriously.
As an employer, you have a duty of care and the law could see depression as a disability.
On top of this, you also want to be a great employer and create a safe and positive place for people to work.
Here are 5 things to consider:
Train your managers to look out for signs of depression
Train a member of your team to become a mental health first aider
Create a culture where people feel safe to communicate
Know what resources are available for people who aren’t feeling their best
Encourage good mental health and wellbeing, including taking proper breaks
