“I hope you realise how important it is.” - Suzy Orrsome
In the second part of the Celebrating Success: Blog Series on the Impact of Awards on Career and Business, today we talk to a fellow Unique Lady, our Chief, Suzy Orrsome who received a very special award.
Enjoy.
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I'm 62, in 2015 I launched Unique Ladies Business Networking which I'm very proud of, we now have 12 groups and make a daily impact on women by supporting and empowering them, no matter where they are on their business journey. I live in Euxton with my dog Daisy Doodle and my Persian cat Nala, and I am living my best life after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in June 2023.
2. What award did you win, and why is this award significant to you?
I won the Shining Star award, which is a special award judged by the team at the Freshies for someone who has stepped up to (and over the mark) It was such a thrill and very humbling to receive this award, it means the world but the girls know how I've tirelessly campaigned for women to have regular mammograms, I've done it very publicly and also launched the Suzy Orrsome Foundation to buy specific equipment for the North of England, and run a Chemo Buddy Service, all this whilst being on my own journey. I'm thrilled.
3. How did you feel when you found out you had won the award?
Excited, emotional, and very proud.
4. What role do you believe awards and recognition play in motivating individuals and enhancing performance?
To be recognised and acknowledged for whatever your speciality is, is a wonderful feeling, it gives you a boost and faith to continue to believe in yourself.
5. So what next, how will receiving this award influence your goals and future aspirations?
My goal for the Suzy Orrsome Foundation is £500K, that will be life changing for many women, and men, diagnosed in this region so I'm on a mission to raise those funds, the recognition makes me even more determined.
6. Anything else you want to add
My thanks to everyone involved with the Freshies, I recognise it takes some organising, so the team, the judges, the sponsors and everyone who voted, I hope you realise how important it is.
Thank you Suzy for talking to me and sharing your insights, a worthy winner and knowing Suzy, she truly is a shining star - the speech to announce Suzy was a winner says it all:
We chose one finalist from all the finalists that we believe has really shone over the last 12 months.
This year, it’s someone who’s overcome a massive challenge, faced a difficult personal battle and really had to face their fears head on.
Not only that, but they then went on to inspire and help others in similar situations with their usual sparkle and sass and just continue to shine in everything they do.
Key Takeaways:
The emotional impact of recognition highlights the powerful boost that can be provided.
The motivational power of awards, giving confidence and faith to continue striving towards goals.
Long-term aspirations reconfirmed, illustrating how awards can propel future ambitions.
Community and support by such events recognising individual achievements, which are essential for both personal and professional growth.
