Build a business that doesn’t need you in the middle of every people problem

PM Business Support Services provides management development and practical HR support for growing UK businesses, helping them build capable managers, strengthen employment foundations and reduce unnecessary owner dependency

So problems are dealt with earlier

Decisions don’t automatically travel upwards

And growth doesn’t create proportionately more dependence on the owner

YOU’VE BUILT THE TEAM. NOW IT NEEDS TO CARRY MORE.

As businesses grow, people management becomes more complicated

There are more employees

More managers

More decisions

More difficult conversations

More situations where the answer isn’t immediately obvious

And if managers aren’t equipped to carry those situations, responsibility starts travelling upwards

The owner becomes the final approval point

HR gets pulled into issues managers could have handled earlier

Performance problems drift

Conversations are delayed

And managers become dependent on someone more senior whenever things become uncomfortable

The business may have grown

But its management capacity hasn’t necessarily grown with it

That is the problem we help solve

TWO PARTS OF A STRONGER PEOPLE OPERATION

Employment foundations that are clear
Managers who know how to use them
A handbook alone cannot manage an employee
A manager without clear policies, expectations and boundaries is being asked to manage without a proper foundation
You need both

Employment Essentials
Clear, practical contracts, policies and employment documentation designed around the business you actually run
So managers and employees understand what is expected, processes are easier to apply consistently, and the business has stronger foundations when difficult situations arise
Trusted Manager™
A 12-month management development and support programme that helps managers take ownership, exercise judgement and handle day-to-day people management without everything coming back to the owner
Managers don’t simply learn what good management looks like
They apply it to real workplace situations and develop the capability to carry responsibility when the answer isn’t always obvious

SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH A PROMOTION

Someone was excellent at their job
A management gap appeared
They were reliable, experienced and knew the business
So they were promoted
Then almost overnight, they were expected to manage performance, handle conflict, make difficult decisions, hold people accountable and deal with situations they may never have encountered before
Management is a different job
And changing somebody’s title doesn’t automatically give them the judgement or capability the role requires
That doesn’t remove a manager’s responsibility for their decisions
But the business carries responsibility too
Did they have clarity?
Appropriate authority?
Practical development?
Support?
Opportunities to exercise judgement?
Or were they simply expected to know?
We help businesses create the conditions in which managers can actually become the managers the organisation needs

OUR APPROACH

Support should build capability — not create another dependency

The aim isn’t for managers to stop asking for help

The aim is for them to know what they should handle, how to think it through and when something genuinely needs escalation

That is the thinking behind our Supported Responsibility Cycle™:

Clarity → Capability → Supported Action → Evidence → Trust → Greater Ownership

Managers develop capability

Then they use it

They think

Exercise judgement

Act

Learn

And repeat

Over time, managers accumulate evidence that they can handle what belongs to them

And business owners accumulate evidence that those situations can be handled properly without their intervention

That is how trust grows

Not because someone is told to "let go"

Because the evidence makes greater ownership possible

WHAT CHANGES WHEN MANAGEMENT CAPABILITY GROWS?

You start hearing:
"Here’s what happened. Here’s what I’ve considered. Here’s what I recommend."
Instead of:
"What do you want me to do?"
Difficult conversations happen earlier
Performance is managed closer to the point it happens
Managers become clearer about what belongs to them
Escalation becomes more appropriate
And the owner gets their attention back for the things that genuinely require founder-level thinking
Customers
Strategy
Opportunities
Commercial decisions
Growth
Because the real goal isn’t simply better managers
It is a business with greater capacity to operate without everything depending on the person at the top

PRACTICAL SUPPORT FOR REAL WORKPLACES

Our work sits at the point where employment law, management capability and everyday workplace reality meet
That means helping businesses deal with the things that actually happen: absence, performance, conduct, difficult conversations, employee relations, management decisions, documentation, escalation and changing employment law
Not simply what the policy says
But what the manager needs to do when the employee is sitting in front of them

PM Business Support Services was founded by Pam Molyneux FCIPD, a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, Fellow of the Learning and Performance Institute (LPI) and member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), with 30 years’ experience across HR, people management and leadership development.
Pam works with growing UK businesses that want something more commercially useful than policies sitting on a shelf or managers attending training and returning to exactly the same behaviour.
The focus is what changes back at work.
Are managers dealing with issues earlier?
Are they exercising better judgement?
Are responsibilities clearer?
Are fewer unnecessary problems reaching the owner?
And is the business becoming increasingly capable of carrying the complexity that comes with growth?

What should stop needing you?

You have already proved that you can solve problems
Make decisions
Carry responsibility
That is part of how you built the business
But the next stage doesn’t have to be about carrying more
It can be about building the employment foundations and management capability that allow more of the business to function properly without your constant intervention
Start with the area that needs attention now
